GIVING
Why Give?
Giving is an act of worship, a response to God’s abundant grace. Scripture reminds us that “God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7) and that all we have ultimately belongs to Him. Your contributions sustain and expand the ministry of Christ and His Word, both locally and around the world. Every gift is stewarded with care to support the preaching of the gospel, the care of those in need, and the planting of future churches.
This page provides details on how we manage these resources with integrity and how you can participate in this Kingdom work.
Am I expected to give?
Giving is a joyful response to God’s grace, not a burdensome obligation. Scripture calls all believers to contribute freely to God’s Kingdom, whether through our time and abilities (1 Corinthians 12:4-7; Ephesians 4:7; 1 Peter 4:10), or material resources (2 Corinthians 9:6-8). However, Jesus doesn’t desire or need what you can’t give in faith and joy. Our giving should flow from gratitude, not guilt, as we trust that God is our provider and that every gift is used for His glory.
Who handles gifts?
The church’s financial gifts are stewarded by our deacons, members who are elected by the congregation and appointed by the elders to oversee both spiritual and material resources (1 Timothy 3:8-13). Deacons are carefully trained and held accountable to ensure that all contributions are handled with integrity, transparency, and faithful stewardship.
How should I designate gifts?
Please make checks payable to Inheritance United Reformed Church. If you’d like your gift to support a specific cause, simply note it on the memo line. Otherwise, it will go to the General Fund to support the church’s ongoing ministry. Cash donations automatically go toward the designated cause listed in the order of worship for that service.
How are Offerings Structured?
We have two types of offerings:
General Fund Offerings support the church’s ongoing ministry, including salaries, utilities, and local programs. The budget is carefully revised each year by elected officers and approved by a congregational vote.
Special Offerings support causes beyond our formal ministry, such as local benevolence, home and foreign missions, Christian education, and disaster relief. These offerings are thoughtfully selected and approved by the elders and deacons.
